Migraine Treatment
Botox Cosmetic has been used for years for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox Therapeutic is an effective treatment for those who suffer from chronic migraines. Chronic migraines can be debilitating for those who suffer from them with little reprieve. If you're suffering from fifteen or more headache days a month, talk to your doctor about Botox as a treatment option. It works even if you only get one migraine per month, but extended medical plans will only pay for the Botox if a patient experiences 15+ headache days per month.
The Botox is injected by one of our physicians in small doses according to strict guidelines devised by Allergan, the maker of Botox and based on years of research. This blocks the chemicals that are responsible for pain transmission that are related to migraines, leading to a decrease in amount and intensity of migraines each month. Treatments are repeated every three months and can take up to two treatments to experience results.
Almost all extended health care plans may cover the cost of Botox Therapeutic for migraines however very few family physicians do the injections under BC MSP. Our clinic charges an injection fee (which also may be covered under some extended health plans) to complete the injection protocol.
**Please note that prescription Botox Therapeutic must be purchased prior to coming in for injections. Your family doctor is required to fill out any paperwork for insurance purposes as it will include your medical history.
